GOVERNMENT
S
tate Repre-
sentative Joe
Gibbons (D-
Hallandale Beach)
has been selected
as the recipient
of RAGFL's "Po-
litical Appreciation
Award."
The selection of
Gibbons was based
on his record of
legislative accomplishment, and
his focus on the issues of impor-
tance to our industry and the state
at large. Gibbons has long rec-
ognized the need for serious tax
relief. In January of 2008, he joined
Governor Charlie Crist and 2008
RAGFL President Randy Bates at
a rally to promote the passage of
Amendment 1.
In addition to reaching across the
isle to support Amendment 1 in
January, Gibbons invited FAR and
RAGFL staff to appear before the
Legislative Black Caucus, which he
chairs, to make the case for several
of the tax amendments being con-
sidered in November. Although he
did not necessarily support all of
the amendments, he afforded our
staff the opportunity to present our
case to the caucus.
Gibbons also spent many hours
reaching out to our members to
brief us on the
activities of the
Legislature. He
traveled to Orlando
to participate in a
legislative panel dis-
cussion at a recent
Florida Association
of Realtors
®
meet-
ing, and served for
the second consec-
utive year as a judge
in RAGFL's Realtor
®
Idol compe-
tition to benefit RPAC.
Gibbons was first elected to
the Florida House in 2006, and
has been subsequently re-elected.
He represents District 105, which
includes much of southern Bro-
ward County, and is currently the
Democratic Ranking Member
on the Transportation and Eco-
nomic Development Appropria-
tions Committee. He also serves
on the Energy and Utilities Policy
Committee, the full Appropriations
Council on Education and Eco-
nomic Development, and the Joint
Legislative Budget Commission.
Gibbons will be presented with
the "Political Appreciation Award" on
Friday January 9, 2009, at Fort Lau-
derdale's Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-
Six, as part of RAGFL's Installation
Banquet & Awards Gala. Visit
